God’s name Jehovah according to the Bible

Jehovah is a Translation from Hebrew

“Jehovah” is a Translation from Hebrew to English. In the Hebrew language we can read for God’s name the Hebrew Tetragrammaton, יהוה. This four Hebrew letters are represented in English and in many other languages (for example German) by the letters JHVH or YHWH.

Jehovah in the Douay Version

The explanation in the footnote on Exodus 6:3 says: “My name Adonai. The name, which is in the Hebrew text, is that most proper name of God, which signifieth his eternal, self-existing being, (Exod. 3, 14,) which the Jews out of reverence never pronounce; but, instead of it, whenever it occurs in the Bible, they read Adonai, which signifies the Lord; and, therefore, they put the points or vowels, which belong to the name Adonai, to the four letters of that other ineffable name, Jod, He, Vau, He. Hence some moderns have framed the name of Jehovah, unknown to all the ancients, whether Jews or Christians; for the true pronunciation of the name, which is in the Hebrew text, by long disuse is now quite lost.”

Doing more for Jehovah brings happiness

A Witness of Jehovah remembered, as a child, how different both of her parents were, just in their happiness and in life in general because her mother were able to do more for Jehovah. About one year later her sister and she himself started with 10 years of age also to do more for Jehovah.

In the Bible we can read: (Romans 1:20) For his invisible qualities are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable.

How can we draw close to Jehovah God?

According to the Bible, God’s word, we can really draw close to Jehovah God. But how? Find the answer in the following Bible Scripture: “(James 4:8) Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you indecisive ones.”
“(Acts 17:27) so that they would seek God , if they might grope for him and really find him, although, in fact, he is not far off from each one of us.”
“(Philippians 1:9) And this is what I continue praying, that your love may abound still more and more with accurate knowledge and full discernment;”
“(1 John 5:3) For this is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome,”
We can also pray to our heavenly father, Jehovah God. And he will listen: “(Psalm 65:2) O Hearer of prayer, to you people of all sorts will come.”

How do we benefit from drawing close to Jehovah God?

We can benefit greatly from drawing close to God:

(Proverbs 3:5, 6) Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, And do not rely on your own understanding.  6 In all your ways take notice of him, And he will make your paths straight.
(John 17:3) This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
(James 1:5) So if any one of you is lacking in wisdom, let him keep asking God, for he gives generously to all and without reproaching, and it will be given him.
